Cassie’s first birthday photo shoot

Studio portraits| First birthday session | Rochester, NY |

My dear friend, Sarah, brought her beautiful little girl, Cassie, into the studio for her first birthday pictures! Cassie is adorable! Love her beautiful blue eyes! It takes Cassie a bit to warm up to new situations, and her parents call it her “stink face.” Luckily we didn’t get the stink face at all for her session. Just a shy little girl at first, and then she warmed right up to me and rocked her first birthday photo shoot!

We asked Sarah what she wanted out of her daughters first year session, and she told me she wanted to capture the stage Cassie was in at the time. You can’t get these times back, so it was and is very important to Sarah to capture her daughter at every stage they can. This particular session was the fourth time they had hired us to do photos of their little girl and family!

Cassie first birthday photo sessionCassie didn’t have an easy start to life. My friend, Sarah, had preeclampsia and had to have an emergency C-section the day before thanksgiving, even though she was only 32 weeks 6 days pregnant. Cassie spent the first week of her life in the NICU at Strong Hospital. Although she didn’t have any major medical issues, she needed to gain weight, learn to eat, and breath on her own.  All that to say, Sarah LOVES the above photo because it highlights her preemie wrinkles, that aren’t seen as often now that Cassie is a year old!

Once we were finished with photos in the outfits Sarah brought for the session, I remembered I had a tutu and necklace in the studio! (You know you have a prop addiction when you can’t remember what you have!) So, we broke out the tutu and necklace. Cassie was a fan!! I love using the 70’s coloring on photos with girls with blue eyes! She looks so sweet!  Funny how we’ve come so far with digital photos, and yet we still prefer the “timeless” coloring of film photography!
